Digital Divide && Connection to Gender Roles

This is part 2 for my 2/23 assignment. I found that Angie's assignment summary was about what women do online compared to what men do online.

She listed 2 facts that caught my eye at first. They were all related. And that is why I was so interested in them:

These sites were relatively helpful. Showing that gender roles are in tact with different spheres of media. Not only do men and women use the internet for different things, but they use it in gendered ways: women like using the internet to connect emotionally with people, but men use it for their own individual interests.

If this is true, it means that learning a 'gender' is hindering more than just career choices for women. Another site in Angie's reports says that women are less likely to try and fix their computer problem, which raises an alarm in my head. Women are more likely to get help from their male peers, which makes them seem unqualified for a lot of jobs and dependent on men. In fact, this is staggering statistic, men are 3 times more likely than women to fix IT problems themselves.
